HENDERSON, Ky. (WEVV)— The 4th Annual Hope for the Holidays Giveaway took place today, bringing joy and essential resources to foster families across Kentucky. Hosted by Foster Care in the U.S. and 4Good Community, the event was held at the West Side Walmart in Henderson, focusing on providing support to families in need during the holiday season.
This year, over 70 families registered for the event, with organizers expecting attendance numbers comparable to last year’s turnout of 1,800 participants. Foster parents and families from across the region—including Dawson Springs and Union County—lined up to receive new clothes, toys, food baskets, and other essentials.
“Hope for the Holidays has grown into one of the largest giveaways we’ve done, and we’re honored to support such a diverse community,” said Jessica, Foster Care in the U.S. “It’s an event we look forward to all year.”
The event has its roots in a backpack program designed to supply school supplies for children in need. Four years ago, 4Good Community partnered with Foster Care in the U.S. to expand the initiative into a holiday giveaway, addressing a gap in toy drives for Kentucky families outside of Salvation Army efforts.
Participants in the giveaway received food baskets featuring smoked hams, and more. The program relies on funds raised through an annual online auction, with proceeds directly funding the giveaway.
Last year’s overwhelming response saw the registration website temporarily crash due to high traffic. Despite fewer families signing up this year, the event continued to meet the needs of the local community.
